Estimate reinforcement steel weight in kg and tonnes from concrete volume in CFT or m³ and an editable steel percentage.
How to use this tool
Enter your values and calculate a result. Check the units and assumptions before using the estimate.
Concrete volume
Input unit
Steel volume percentage (%)
Steel density (lb per CFT)
Pounds per kilogram
Steel allowance (%)
Matches the template volume method: concrete volume in CFT × steel percentage ÷ 100 × 490 ÷ 2.22. Edit the density and conversion factor as needed. Steel percentages do not replace structural drawings or a bar bending schedule.
Steel weight from concrete volume
Enter the concrete volume in CFT or m³ and the assumed steel volume percentage. The result is a preliminary reinforcement quantity in kilograms and tonnes.
Formula
Steel kg = concrete CFT × steel percentage / 100 × density in lb/CFT ÷ pounds per kilogram.
Example
For 100 CFT and 1% steel, using the template defaults of 490 lb/CFT and 2.22 lb/kg gives 220.720721 kg before allowance, or 231.756757 kg with 5% allowance.
Conversion and limits
The template uses an approximate 2.22 lb/kg conversion. An exact conversion is 2.20462262185 lb/kg. Edit this input if required; the changed result will then differ from the template. The percentage is a volume assumption, not a percentage of concrete weight. Always obtain final reinforcement quantities from structural drawings and a bar bending schedule.
